K-6 Full Day Workshops

Narrowing the Achievement Gap in Literacy

Includes video

This seminar will focus on the practical elements needed for you and your school to narrow the achievement gap.  Judy will provide you with proven intervention strategies in reading for your students:   Title 1, Ethnically Diverse, Special Ed and English Learners.  These ideas will give you fresh resolve and fresh approaches to meeting the needs of your students as you differentiate reading instruction.  You will gain new insights are you hear and see demonstrations modeling the interventions needed to increase proficiency.

Judy will share classroom-proven ideas to actively engage K-6 students having difficulty with literacy.  You will learn ready-to-use methods for teaching the most effective comprehension strategies, incorporating vocabulary techniques, interactive phonics appropriate to each grade level and building fluency.  You will have choices to do these key literacy practices whole group or small group, push- in or pull-out, or after school.

Narrowing the achievement gap for struggling students takes a team effort.  You will leave energized with ideas for individual teachers, grade level teams and whole school efforts.  Parents will be partners with your school effort to help children at school and at home.  It does “take a village” to educate a literate child!
You will leave this not-to-be-missed seminar with a resource handbook filled with literacy-building materials that will help you implement these intervention strategies immediately when you return to your classroom.
